Report the closest available item
For a specific message, use its report action. A post and a comment have their own report controls. Choose the reason that best matches what happened. If the issue concerns the wider conversation, open the three-dot chat menu and choose Report this chat.
A conversation report includes a limited selection of the other participant’s recent messages, not an unlimited conversation archive. Reporting the relevant message directly helps avoid losing the context of an older incident. Do this while the item is still available.
Block when you want contact to stop
In the chat menu, choose Block this person. Blocking closes shared conversations, removes the friendship if one exists and prevents contact from that account. It also declines pending friend requests between the two accounts.
Blocking and reporting are separate actions. If a message violates the rules, report the relevant content before leaving or blocking where possible. You can review blocked accounts from your profile. Unblocking does not restore an old friendship or guarantee that an ended chat will reopen.
Understand what evidence remains
A report stores separate text evidence for moderation and does not disclose the reporting identity to the reported user. Resolved reports are kept for up to 90 days after resolution; unresolved reports remain until handled.
Pictures and voice files still expire 24 hours after sending, even when reported. A report does not preserve their original files indefinitely. Do not repost harmful images or another person’s private details in Time Square to draw attention to a report.
If the issue continues
For a product fault or a question about handling, use Feedback and suggestions in your profile and describe the time and relevant operation. Do not submit your recovery code. Reporting requests a review; it does not promise a particular penalty or an immediate reply.
For threats involving immediate real-world danger, leave the conversation and contact the emergency or support services appropriate to your location. The site’s moderation queue is not an emergency response channel.
